Bill Gates, Co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, commended Qatar’s efforts to finance development projects across various countries, as the Qatar Fund for Development signed an agreement on April 13, 2016 to provide a grant of $ 50 million to The Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF).
LLF was established by the Islamic Development Bank, in coordination with the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to invest $2.5 billion in projects that help the poorest people in 30 of the poorest Muslim countries. Gates added that the Qatar Fund for Development is contributing to the development initiatives in the OIC countries.
In this regard, the Fund’s contribution to the Lives and Livelihoods Fund demonstrates the State of Qatar’s pioneering role in supporting health, agriculture and infrastructure projects that will enable people to lift themselves out of poverty.
The Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development, H.E. Mr. Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari said, “We are really proud to be contributing in this leading project that will help millions of people overcome poverty.
The “Lives and Livelihoods Fund” is an innovative means of financing development projects to support the poorest Muslim countries,” commented Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali Al-Madani, the President of Islamic Development Bank Group.
