Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a Core Contribution Agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to support its main resources. HE Khalifa Bin Jassim Al Kuwari, Director General of QFFD, and Ms. Kelly T. Clement, Deputy of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees., signed the MoU on the sidelines of the 18th Doha Forum.
This understanding will be a continuation of the projects of QFFD and UNHCR that are directed to support refugees and displaced persons, including support that will ensure UNHCR’s continued effective role in providing international protection to refugees and the search for durable solutions to their causes in three main areas, namely: voluntary repatriation, integration into host countries where they have sought asylum or resettlement in a third country.
UNHCR also provides assistance to internally displaced persons in situations of civil war around the world. Furthermore, it promotes international refugee agreements, monitors government compliance with international law, and provides material assistance such as food, water, medical care and shelter to fleeing civilians.
HE Khalifa Bin Jassim Al Kuwari, Director General of QFFD, said: ” Qatar Fund For Development is interested in the initiatives of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. With tens of thousands of asylum seekers and refugees around the world, we need to reach solutions. This is the aim of our joint work with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees so that helping refugees and caring for their causes contributes to the development of human resources. Every human being in this world deserves the freedom and the most basic means of living to enjoy a decent life. “
This cooperation comes in support of the QFFD efforts to promote and develop cooperation between the two sides in the framework of protecting the rights of refugees, standing by them, alleviating their suffering and providing them with the necessary humanitarian needs throughout the world.
“UNHCR is proud of its cooperation with the Qatar Fund for Development and appreciates the importance the Fund gives to UNHCR’s efforts and initiatives to respond to increasing humanitarian needs of displaced communities. At a time when the world faces unprecedented levels of forced displacement, the support we receive from our partners is crucial in helping us respond to humanitarian needs. Qatar has long been a key supporter of our efforts and we are very keen to strengthen our relations with various humanitarian actors in the country, at governmental and non-governmental levels and we are grateful for the support we receive from them”. Kelly T. Clements, Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees.
