By implementing many development projects including infrastructure, economic empowerment, youth capacity-building and education

Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has signed a partnership agreement with the Somali government to implement various development projects in Somalia at a cost of USD 200 million in the fields of infrastructure, education and economic empowerment.  The agreement also aims at re-establishing the governmental premises and institutions and enhancing Qatar’s efforts to achieve ​​stability and economic development.

H.E. Mr. Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, Director General of Qatar Fund for Development, signed on behalf of the State of Qatar while H.E. Jamal Mohamed Hassan, Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, signed on behalf of the Somali government.

The project that is to be financed includes the implementation of several developmental projects including the construction of the 30km Mogadishu – Afgoye road, as well as the 90km Mogadishu – Jowhar road, the rehabilitation of the Prime Minister’s building, the rebuilding of the premises of the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, the rehabilitation of the Mogadishu municipality building and the rehabilitation of the Diplomatic Institute building. The Silatech foundation will also contribute to the partnership agreement by implementing initiatives to create jobs and economic opportunities for young people in the Arab world through carrying out vocational and technical training projects in various states of Somalia. The projects will also include the support of education programs in Somalia, through cooperation with the Education Above All foundation.

H.E. Mr. Al Kuwari added that the State of Qatar’s support program is a genuine expression of its commitment to the Somali people and government, as well as a means to develop the ties between the two countries. He stressed that Qatar is playing an active role in strengthening the efforts of the Somali government towards securing its national interests.

The Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development of Somalia, H.E. Jamal Mohamed Hassan thanked the State of Qatar for supporting Somalia in the past years, stressing the unique relation between the two countries. He also expressed his happiness with the agreements, most of which are to develop projects in the fields of education, health, and infrastructure.
