The representative of the government of Sri Lanka extends sincere thanks for the generous contribution of Qatar to battle drought and to help the people affected.

A grant agreement was signed between Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and the government of the Republic of Sri Lanka to provide urgent aid to Sri Lanka to face the drought and help the affected people. His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, chairman of the Qatar Fund for Development represented QFFD and the Honorable Vasantha Senanayake, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of  Sri Lanka, represented his government.

QFFD said that this grant will contribute to alleviating the suffering of those affected by the humanitarian crisis in some areas of Sri Lanka, as a result of the difficult conditions in these areas due to drought, there is a lack of food resources and the health services available to the population is poor.

QFFD also stated that the grant is being provided to help mitigate the effects of the disaster on people as Sri Lanka is suffering its worst drought. Consequently, people suffer a humanitarian crisis due to the drought, lack of foodstuffs and the weak health services.
