Qatar Fund for Development participated in the 2025 Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Partnership Forum at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on February 5, 2025. The forum, held under the theme “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals for leaving no one behind,” aims to support global efforts in fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and addressing critical challenges to promote sustainable development worldwide.
Mr. Guy Bernard Ryder, Under-Secretary-General for Policy at the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) opened the one-day Forum at the Trusteeship Council Chamber while emphasizing expectations and priorities for the 2025 Edition of the Forum, specifically focusing on enhancing multisector collaboration and the ways to mobilize commitments between governments, private sector and other stakeholders.
Mr. Fahad Al-Sulaiti, Director General of Qatar Fund for Development attended the Plenary Session representing the State of Qatar, and during his remarks, he stated “At Qatar Fund for Development, we are focused on addressing today’s pressing global challenges through targeted and innovative financing solutions. Recognizing the urgency of the global financing gap, we are actively engaging in initiatives that empower countries to build and reduce dependence on unsustainable debt. Since its inception, QFFD has extended over $7 billion in support to more than 90 countries, positively impacting millions of lives through projects in health, education, and economic development and other sectors.”
Furthermore, a delegation from QFFD participated in the four SDG action segments that highlighted the criticality of forming and developing concrete and innovative partnerships to enhance the process of implementation and success. These sessions focused on economic growth and decent work (SDG 8), health and well-being (SDG 3), life below water (SDG 14), and gender equality (SDG 5). Led by key UN agencies, they aimed to strengthen cross-sector collaboration and accelerate progress toward the 2030 Agenda.
This participation reaffirms the State of Qatar’s commitment to achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda. The Fund emphasized, in collaboration with stakeholders, the importance of effective and innovative partnerships in addressing global challenges. It also highlighted the need to strengthen the private sector and engage more deeply with national parliaments and local authorities to achieve sustainable development.
